CUE Touchscreen Delamination and Screen Failure

A/C Compressor and Condenser Failure

The air conditioning compressor fails prematurely, resulting in warm air from the vents. When the compressor fails internally, metal debris contaminates the entire A/C system, requiring replacement of the condenser, receiver/drier, and sometimes the expansion valve. Owners in warm climates report A/C failures as early as 50,000 miles.

Solution

Replace the A/C compressor, receiver/drier, and expansion valve. If the compressor has shed metal debris, the condenser must also be replaced and all lines must be flushed to prevent contamination of the new compressor. Evacuate and recharge the system with the correct amount of R-134a. Use a quality aftermarket compressor for cost savings.

Front Strut and Magnetic Ride Control Shock Failure

XTS models equipped with Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) experience premature front strut and rear shock failures. The MRC units leak magnetorheological fluid from the seals, degrading ride quality and handling. Non-MRC models also experience premature strut wear. Owners notice increased body roll, bouncing over bumps, clunking, and a warning message indicating MRC system fault.

Solution

Replace the failed MRC struts or shocks with OEM or aftermarket MRC-compatible units. Aftermarket options from Arnott and other suppliers cost less than OEM GM units. Engine Oil Leak from Timing Cover and Valve Covers

The 3.6L V6 engine develops oil leaks from the front timing cover gasket and valve cover gaskets. The leaks are often slow seeps that worsen over time, leaving oil stains on the driveway and causing a burning oil smell when oil drips onto the exhaust. The timing cover leak is more difficult and expensive to repair due to the labor involved in accessing the front of the engine.

Solution

Replace the valve cover gaskets for external leaks at the valve covers. For timing cover leaks, the front of the engine must be partially disassembled to replace the timing cover gasket and reseal the cover. Some mechanics use a thread-sealant repair on minor timing cover leaks as a less invasive alternative. Inspect the oil pan gasket at the same time.

Transmission Control Module (TCM) Failure

The TCM mounted on the transmission housing is exposed to heat and vibration that causes premature failure. Symptoms include erratic shifting, harsh engagement, transmission fault codes, limp mode (locked in a single gear), and a 'Service Transmission' warning on the dash. The TCM is an external module bolted to the transmission and is separate from the PCM.

Solution

Replace the TCM and have it programmed to the vehicle by the dealer using GM diagnostic equipment. The new TCM must be calibrated to the specific transmission and VIN. After replacement, a transmission fluid level check and adaptive learn drive cycle should be performed to optimize shift quality.

PARKING BRAKE

Campaign: 14V541000 Date: 09/09/2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 22, 2014, and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured November 5, 2012, to September 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the electronic parking brake piston actuation arm may not fully retract causing the brake pads to stay partially engaged.

Consequence

Brake pads that remain partially engaged with the rotors may cause excessive brake heat that may result in a fire.

Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the electronic parking brake software, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14471.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE

Campaign: 14V518000 Date: 28/08/2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured April 11, 2013, to June 27, 2013, and 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured May 13, 2013, to November 5, 2013. The affected vehicles may have left the factory with the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) set to "manufacturing mode."

Consequence

In manufacturing mode, the vehicle's air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.

Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers are to reprogram the SDM to the correct mode, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in September 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14532.

STEERING

Campaign: 14V409000 Date: 02/07/2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Camaro and Chevrolet Impala vehicles. Improperly torqued fasteners may cause the steering intermediate shaft and the steering gear and/or the lower control arm and the lower ball joint to separate.

Consequence

If any of the components separate, the vehicle may have a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

GM began to notify owners on June 27, 2014, and dealers will inspect the fasteners for correct torque, correcting them as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac) or 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14378.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, through March 7, 2014. In the affected vehicles, a cavity plug on the brake booster pump connector may dislodge allowing corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector.

Consequence

The corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector may cause a resistive short and melt the connector, increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealant to the connector cavity plugs, re-route the vacuum pump vent hose and replace the front body wiring harnesses as needed, free of charge. The recall began on April 7, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. GM's number for this recall is 14062.
