Brake Noise, Judder, and Dragging
Owners report brake squealing, grinding noise, and judder during braking. Some experience brake drag where the pads do not fully release from the rotors, causing uneven wear, reduced fuel economy, and excessive brake dust on the wheels.
A Mazda TSB addresses brake noise, judder, and dragging concerns. Caliper slide pin cleaning and lubrication, rotor resurfacing, and pad replacement with updated compound pads. Caliper piston inspection and reconditioning if dragging persists.
Est. Cost: $150 - $600Retractable Hardtop Quarter Garnish Cracking
The left and/or right side retractable hardtop (RF model) quarter garnish develops cracks due to molding material deterioration. The cracks are cosmetic but worsen over time and can allow water intrusion during rain or car washes.
A Mazda TSB addresses the quarter garnish cracking with replacement of the affected trim pieces using an updated material formulation that resists UV degradation and cracking.
Est. Cost: $0 (warranty) / $200 - $500 per side if out of warrantySoft Top Rear Window Cloth Sagging
The inner cloth lining at the rear end of the soft top falls down, creating a poor appearance and obstructing the view through the rear window. This affects the convertible (non-RF) models and worsens with heat exposure.
A Mazda TSB addresses the sagging rear cloth with re-adhesion or replacement of the inner cloth lining. Specialized heat-resistant adhesive is used to secure the material. Soft top replacement is rarely necessary.
Est. Cost: $0 (warranty) / $150 - $400 if out of warrantyMazda Connect Infotainment Glitches
The Mazda Connect system experiences lag, occasional freezing, and connectivity issues with smartphones. The rotary commander dial input sometimes registers incorrect commands, and the screen may not wake from sleep mode promptly.
Software update to the latest Mazda Connect firmware. A system reset can provide temporary relief. Cleaning the rotary commander contacts can improve input accuracy. Head unit replacement in persistent cases.
Est. Cost: $0 - $300Fluid Leak from Transmission or Differential
Oil or fluid dripping is noticed on the ground where the vehicle is parked. The leak may originate from the transmission output seal, differential pinion seal, or power steering system on older units. Even minor leaks should be addressed promptly.
Identify the source of the leak through a visual inspection. Seal replacement is the typical repair. Transmission or differential fluid top-off after repair. A dye test may be needed if the source is not immediately apparent.
