2020 Genesis G70
Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2020 Genesis G70 maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Genesis G70.
For oil changes, the 2020 Genesis G70 takes 5W-30 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 5.1 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 3, the recommended coolant is Phosphate-based Green/Blue, and transmission fluid is SP-IV-M (ATF). Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Genesis G70, torque the lug nuts to 79-94 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.
Owners of the 2020 Genesis G70 have reported 5 common issues including "Timing Chain Rattle on 2.0T Engine", "Differential Whine in AWD Models" and "Brake Pedal Pulsation and Rotor Warping". Scroll down to the Diagnostics tab for detailed descriptions, solutions, and estimated repair costs.

Timing Chain Rattle on 2.0T Engine
The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder Theta II engine develops a rattling noise from the timing chain area on cold starts. The rattle typically lasts 2-5 seconds before quieting down. The issue is caused by the timing chain tensioner losing oil pressure while the engine sits overnight.
Replace the timing chain tensioner with the updated design. In advanced cases, the timing chain, guides, and sprockets should also be replaced as a set. Hyundai/Genesis issued a TSB for Theta II engine timing chain noise on affected models.
Est. Cost: $500 - $1,200 (tensioner) / $1,500 - $3,000 (full chain kit)Differential Whine in AWD Models
AWD-equipped G70s develop a noticeable whining noise from the rear differential at highway speeds between 50-70 mph. The noise increases during acceleration and decreases when coasting. The issue is more common in vehicles subjected to aggressive driving.
A rear differential fluid change with Genesis-specified fluid can reduce the noise in mild cases. If the differential gears show wear patterns, the differential assembly may need to be replaced. An electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) software update may also help.
Est. Cost: $150 - $300 (fluid change) / $2,000 - $4,000 (differential replacement)Brake Pedal Pulsation and Rotor Warping
Owners report brake pedal pulsation and steering wheel vibration during moderate to heavy braking, especially after highway driving. The front brake rotors warp prematurely, sometimes within 15,000-20,000 miles. The performance-oriented Brembo brakes on the 3.3T Sport trim are also affected.
Resurface or replace the front brake rotors and pads. Upgrading to higher-quality aftermarket rotors with better heat dissipation is recommended for spirited drivers. Proper break-in procedure of new rotors is critical to prevent recurrence.
Est. Cost: $300 - $600 (resurface and pads) / $600 - $1,200 (rotor replacement)Wireless Phone Charger Overheating and Slow Charging
The wireless phone charging pad overheats quickly, causing phones to stop charging or charge very slowly. A 'Charging Paused Due to Temperature' message appears on connected phones. Some owners report the charging pad getting hot enough to affect phone battery health.
Genesis has released a software update for the wireless charging module to improve thermal management. Removing phone cases can help with heat dissipation. If the charging pad module itself is defective, it requires replacement.
Est. Cost: $0 (software update) / $200 - $500 (charging pad replacement)Rearview Camera Image Quality Degradation
The rearview camera image becomes blurry, develops a blue/purple tint, or shows horizontal lines over time. Moisture intrusion into the camera lens housing is the primary cause. The problem is accelerated by frequent car washes and exposure to temperature extremes.
Replace the rear camera module. Ensure the replacement unit has proper sealing. Some owners have had success with aftermarket camera lens protectors to prevent future moisture ingress. Dealers may also need to update camera software.
Est. Cost: $250 - $600 (camera module replacement)3 NHTSA safety recalls for the 2020 Genesis G70. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov
