2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia
Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Alfa Romeo Giulia.
For oil changes, the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia takes 0W-40 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 5 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 4, the recommended coolant is OAT Coolant (Purple), and transmission fluid is ZF Lifeguard 8 (ATF). Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Alfa Romeo Giulia, torque the lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.

Electrical System Gremlins and Random Warning Lights
The Giulia is plagued by electrical issues including random dashboard warning lights, intermittent limp mode activation, and unexplained faults in the body control module. Owners report the check engine light, traction control warning, and tire pressure monitoring light all illuminating simultaneously without any underlying mechanical fault. The issues often clear after restarting the vehicle.
A dealer software update to the body control module and engine control module resolves many phantom warning lights. Wiring harness connections should be inspected for loose pins or corrosion. FCA/Stellantis has released multiple calibration updates to address electrical communication faults. TSB 08-085-18 REV.A covers electrical fault diagnosis.
Est. Cost: $0 - $300 (software updates) / $500 - $2,000 (harness or module repair)Infotainment System Freezing and Uconnect Rebooting
The Uconnect 8.8-inch infotainment system freezes, goes to a black screen, or enters a reboot loop while driving. Navigation stops providing directions, phone calls are disconnected, and the backup camera becomes unavailable. The system's built-in storage can become corrupted, requiring a complete reinstallation.
Perform a hard reset of the Uconnect system by holding the volume and tune knobs simultaneously for 10-15 seconds. If the issue persists, a dealer software reflash or replacement of the infotainment module is needed. FCA/Stellantis TSB 08-065-18 addresses Uconnect system stability improvements.
Est. Cost: $0 (reset/software update) / $1,000 - $2,500 (module replacement)Engine Stalling at Low Speed and Idle
Some Giulia models with the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder experience intermittent engine stalling at idle or when coming to a stop. The engine drops RPM sharply and may stall without warning, leaving the driver without power steering or brake assist momentarily. The issue has been linked to a fuel pump control module software fault and an electronic throttle body calibration error.
A powertrain control module (PCM) software update addressing idle stability and fuel pump control is the primary fix. FCA recall W19/Alfa Romeo recall 19V-660 addresses stalling concerns on certain Giulia and Stelvio models. The electronic throttle body should be cleaned and recalibrated during the service.
Est. Cost: $0 (recall/software update) / $200 - $500 (throttle body cleaning and recalibration)Rear Window Regulator and Door Handle Failure
The rear power window regulators fail prematurely, causing the window to fall into the door panel or become stuck in the up or down position. Additionally, the exterior door handles — which use a flush, electronic-release design — can fail to actuate the latch, leaving occupants unable to open the door from the outside.
Replace the rear window regulator assembly. The door handle electronic release mechanism must be replaced if it has failed, which requires removing the interior door panel and outer trim. FCA has released updated door handle actuators with improved durability for the Giulia platform.
Est. Cost: $300 - $600 (window regulator) / $400 - $900 (door handle assembly)Transmission Harsh Shift and Delayed Engagement (ZF 8-Speed)
The ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission can exhibit harsh downshifts, delayed engagement from park to drive, and a noticeable clunk when shifting at low speed. In Dynamic mode, the transmission holds gears aggressively and delivers jarring downshifts. Some owners report a shudder during gentle acceleration in higher gears.
A transmission control module (TCM) software update improves shift quality and adaptive learning. A transmission fluid service with the correct ZF LifeGuard 8 fluid can resolve shudder issues. If the torque converter develops a shudder, it may need replacement. FCA TSB 21-011-18 covers shift quality improvements.
Est. Cost: $0 - $200 (software) / $300 - $600 (fluid service) / $2,000 - $3,500 (torque converter)6 NHTSA safety recalls for the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov
BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles. The printed circuit board and software for the rearview camera may contain defects that cause the rearview camera image not to display properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
A rearview image that does not display properly reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace the radio, as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the rearview camera software, as necessary. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 25, 2025. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is A2C. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 14, 2025.
EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2017-2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia and 2021-2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vehicles.
