Common problems reported by 2021 Honda Odyssey owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.

1

Power Sliding Door Malfunction

The power sliding doors may fail to open, fail to close, or stop and reverse direction mid-travel. The issue can affect one or both sides and is often intermittent. Some owners report the door opening on its own or the motor running without the door moving.

Solution

American Honda issued a service bulletin for 2020-2022 Odyssey models addressing power sliding door failures. The fix may involve replacing the door latch assembly, roller mechanism, or control module. In some cases, the wiring harness in the door track area needs repair.

Est. Cost: $200 - $800 (often covered under warranty)
2

Fuel Pump Failure (Recall)

The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail, causing the engine to stall while driving. This affects a broad range of Honda models. Symptoms include engine hesitation, loss of power, and sudden shutoff without warning.

Solution

Honda issued recall 23V-858 to replace the fuel pump module free of charge. Contact your dealer with your VIN to verify eligibility. Do not delay this repair as engine stalling poses a serious safety risk.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
3

Second-Row Seat Rail Locking Failure (Recall)

The second-row outboard seats may have deformed seat rail locking mechanisms that prevent the seat rails from locking securely into position. An unsecured seat can move unexpectedly during normal driving or in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

Solution

Honda issued a recall to replace both second-row outboard seat frames free of charge. Contact your dealer with your VIN to schedule the repair. Do not use the second-row outboard seating positions until the recall is completed.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
4

Side-View Mirror Glass Detachment (Recall)

The heating pads behind both side-view mirrors may not be bonded properly, allowing the mirror glass to detach from the mirror housing while driving. Loss of a side-view mirror reduces driver visibility and creates a road hazard.

Solution

Honda issued a recall to replace both left and right side-view mirror assemblies free of charge. Contact your dealer with your VIN to check eligibility.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
5

Front Damper Squeaking and Creaking Noise

A squeaking or creaking noise is heard from the front suspension when driving over bumps, speed bumps, or uneven road surfaces. The noise is caused by friction between the front damper body and the dust boot or bump stop, and is more pronounced in cold weather.

Solution

Honda issued a TSB for 2018-2024 Odyssey models. The dealer will apply silicone lubricant to the contact surfaces or replace the front damper dust boots with updated parts. The repair typically takes about one hour per side.

Est. Cost: $0 - $300 (often covered under warranty)
