The 2021 Jeep Gladiator maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Jeep Gladiator.

For oil changes, the 2021 Jeep Gladiator takes 5W-20 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 5.9 quarts. Common problems reported by 2021 Jeep Gladiator owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.

1

Death Wobble — Front Suspension Oscillation

The Gladiator JT shares the same solid front axle and suspension as the Wrangler JL and suffers from the same death wobble phenomenon. A violent shaking of the steering wheel occurs after hitting a bump at highway speeds, often making the vehicle nearly undriveable until the driver slows to a stop. The issue affects both stock and lifted vehicles.

Solution

Inspect and retorque front lower ball joints per TSB 02-004-21 REV. A. Replace the steering damper. A class-action settlement provides warranty extension to 8 years/90,000 miles for steering damper repairs. Upgraded aftermarket steering stabilizers provide additional improvement.

Est. Cost: $200 - $1,200
2

Clutch Pressure Plate Fracture (Manual Transmission)

Manual transmission Gladiators equipped with the NSG370 6-speed are subject to a clutch pressure plate that can overheat, fracture, and potentially cause an underhood fire. Symptoms include difficulty shifting, grinding noises, clutch pedal vibration, and a strong burning smell from the engine bay.

Solution

NHTSA Recall 22V-449 covers inspection and replacement of the clutch pressure plate assembly. The replacement uses an updated design with improved heat dissipation. Do not drive the vehicle if clutch failure symptoms are present.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
3

Water Leaks Through Freedom Top and Door Seals

Water enters the cabin through the freedom panel seals, door seals, and hardtop mounting points, especially after rain, car washes, or off-road water crossings. Water pools on the floor, soaks the carpet, and can damage under-seat wiring harnesses and the Uconnect head unit mounted in the center stack.

Solution

Reseal the freedom panels using updated foam gaskets per TSB 23-068-23. Replace worn door weatherstripping. Apply additional sealant at the hardtop rear mounting points. Inspect and clear the cowl drain tubes to prevent water backing up into the cabin.

Est. Cost: $0 - $500
4

3.6L Pentastar Engine Tick and Rocker Arm Wear

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 develops a ticking noise that worsens as the engine warms up, caused by worn rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters (HLAs). Metal shavings may appear in the oil. If left unaddressed, the worn rocker arm can damage the camshaft lobe and lead to misfires and loss of power.

Solution

Replace the affected rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters. TSB 09-009-23 directs technicians to check HLAs for collapse under thumb pressure. Use updated rocker arm assemblies with improved needle bearings. Change oil on schedule with OEM-specified 0W-20 synthetic.

Est. Cost: $800 - $2,500
5

Engine and Electrical System Sudden Shutdown

Some owners report the engine shutting off unexpectedly while driving, accompanied by loss of power steering and power brakes. The dashboard goes dark, and the vehicle may or may not restart immediately. The issue is linked to faulty Intelligent Battery Sensor readings and Body Control Module communication errors.

Solution

Replace the Intelligent Battery Sensor and update the Body Control Module and PCM software. TSB 08-074-22 addresses power management faults. Check all ground connections and clean battery terminal contacts.

Est. Cost: $150 - $600
