2022 Audi A5
Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2022 Audi A5 maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Audi A5.
For oil changes, the 2022 Audi A5 takes 5W-40 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 5.7 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 4, the recommended coolant is G13 (Purple, phosphate-free), and transmission fluid is VW G 055 025 A2. Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Audi A5, torque the lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.
Owners of the 2022 Audi A5 have reported 5 common issues including "EA888 Evo4 Turbocharger Diverter Valve Failure", "7-Speed S-Tronic Transmission Mechatronic Solenoid Issues" and "Convertible Top Hydraulic System Leak (A5 Cabriolet)". Scroll down to the Diagnostics tab for detailed descriptions, solutions, and estimated repair costs.
There are 2 NHTSA safety recalls on file for the 2022 Audi A5. Check the Recalls tab below for full details.
Specifications on this page are compiled from multiple publicly available sources including manufacturer documentation, NHTSA data, and automotive databases. Always cross-reference with your owner's manual or official factory documentation before purchasing parts or performing any service.

Common problems reported by 2022 Audi A5 owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.
EA888 Evo4 Turbocharger Diverter Valve Failure
The 2.0L EA888 Evo4 engine in the A5 uses an electronic diverter valve (also called a bypass valve) on the turbocharger that can fail. When the diverter valve sticks open, the engine loses boost pressure, resulting in significant power loss. When it sticks closed, compressor surge occurs, producing a fluttering or chattering sound. A check engine light with boost pressure underperformance codes (P0299) is common.
Dealer replaces the electronic diverter valve. Updated valves with improved solenoid actuators are available. The turbocharger charge pipes should be inspected for cracks or loose connections that can mimic diverter valve symptoms. Reference Audi TSB 2041276/2 for boost system diagnosis.
Est. Cost: $250 - $6007-Speed S-Tronic Transmission Mechatronic Solenoid Issues
The DL382 7-speed S-Tronic transmission in the A5 can develop solenoid failures within the mechatronic unit, causing intermittent harsh shifting, delayed gear engagement, and occasional limp-mode activation (the transmission locks into a single gear). Warning messages appear on the driver information display, and the vehicle may need to be restarted to temporarily clear the condition.
Dealer diagnoses the mechatronic unit using VAS diagnostic equipment and replaces the failed solenoid(s) or the entire mechatronic unit if multiple solenoids are affected. The transmission fluid and filter should be changed simultaneously. Reference Audi TSB 2046783/2 for S-Tronic mechatronic diagnosis.
Est. Cost: $1,500 - $4,500Convertible Top Hydraulic System Leak (A5 Cabriolet)
A5 Cabriolet models with the power-folding soft top can develop hydraulic fluid leaks in the convertible top system. The hydraulic cylinders, lines, and pump assembly age and develop seepage, causing the top to operate slowly, stop mid-cycle, or display 'Roof Malfunction' warnings. In some cases, the roof gets stuck in a partially open position, leaving the cabin exposed to weather.
Dealer identifies and replaces the leaking hydraulic components — commonly the lift cylinders or hydraulic pump. The hydraulic fluid is refilled and the system bled. The convertible top sensors and microswitches should be recalibrated after any hydraulic repair. Reference Audi TSB 2050843/1 for convertible top hydraulic diagnosis.
Est. Cost: $800 - $3,000Driver Assist Pre-Sense System False Interventions
The Audi pre-sense front collision avoidance system can generate false forward collision warnings and autonomously apply the brakes when no obstacle is present. These phantom braking events are triggered by overpasses, road signs, shadows, and vehicles in adjacent lanes. The sudden braking can startle passengers and creates a risk of being rear-ended by following traffic.
Dealer recalibrates the front-facing camera and radar sensor. Software updates to the driver assistance control module improve object detection algorithms and reduce false positives. Reference Audi TSB 2053187/1 for pre-sense system calibration. The pre-sense sensitivity can be adjusted in the MMI settings.
Est. Cost: $0 (software update) - $600 (sensor recalibration)Front Control Arm Bushing Deterioration
The front lower control arm bushings on the A5 can deteriorate prematurely, causing a clunking noise over bumps, vague steering feel, and uneven front tire wear. The rubber bushings crack and separate from the metal sleeves, allowing excessive play in the front suspension. The issue is more common on vehicles driven on rough road surfaces and in cold climates.
Dealer replaces the front lower control arms with new bushings (the bushings are not separately serviceable — the entire arm must be replaced). Both sides should be done simultaneously. A four-wheel alignment is mandatory after control arm replacement. Updated control arms with stiffer bushings are available.
