2016 Land Rover Range Rover

The four-corner air suspension system is the Range Rover's most notorious failure point. Air strut bladders crack and leak, causing the vehicle to sag, and the compressor burns out from running continuously to compensate. Warnings such as 'Suspension Fault' and 'Normal Height Only' appear. The vehicle may become undrivable if it drops to the bump stops.

Replace leaking air struts (all four often need replacement within a short window). Replace the compressor and air dryer assembly. A full system leak-down test should be performed to identify all failure points before beginning repairs. Some owners convert to Arnott or other aftermarket air struts at lower cost.

The dual-screen Touch Pro Duo system experiences black screens, frozen displays, and slow response on both the upper and lower screens. Climate controls, seat heating, and terrain response settings become inaccessible when the lower screen fails. The system drains significant processing power and generates heat, leading to thermal throttling and lag.

Jaguar Land Rover has issued multiple software updates for the Touch Pro Duo system. Dealers can perform a full system reflash or replace the infotainment modules if hardware failure is confirmed. JLR TSB LTB00726 addresses systematic screen failures on the L405 platform.

The 5.0L supercharged V8 develops coolant leaks from the coolant crossover pipes at the front of the engine, where the O-rings degrade from heat cycling. The leak starts as a slow seep but can progress to a significant loss of coolant. Overheating can cause catastrophic engine damage if the coolant level is not monitored.

Replace the coolant crossover pipe O-rings and inspect the pipes for corrosion. The supercharger intercooler coolant circuit should also be checked for leaks. JLR TSB LTB00589 covers the repair procedure. A complete cooling system pressure test should be performed after the repair.

The two-speed transfer case develops a fluid leak from the output shaft seal, and owners report a clunk when shifting between drive and reverse or when transitioning from coasting to acceleration. The transfer case fluid leak is visible as a dark oil spot under the center of the vehicle. Low fluid levels can cause internal damage.

Replace the transfer case output shaft seal and refill with the correct specification fluid. If the internal clutch packs or chain are worn (causing the clunk), a transfer case rebuild or replacement is required. JLR TSB LTB00612 addresses transfer case seal leaks on the L405.

The powered tailgate fails to latch, open, or close properly. The power closing assist motor wears out, and the latch mechanism can become misaligned. Owners report the tailgate bouncing back open after attempting to close, and the 'Tailgate Open' warning remaining on the dash even when closed. Water intrusion corrodes the wiring in the tailgate.

Replace the tailgate latch mechanism and the power closing assist motor. Inspect and repair the tailgate wiring harness for corrosion. The tailgate hinges and gas struts should be checked for proper alignment. Recalibration with the dealer diagnostic tool is required after replacement.

Dealers will inspect the front suspension knuckles and install a retaining bracket or replace the knuckle, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 5, 2025. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Range Rover vehicles. The front suspension upper knuckle joint may crack, which can result in suspension arm detachment.

Suspension arm detachment can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect the front suspension knuckles and install a retaining bracket or replace the knuckle, as necessary, free of charge. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The driver's seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies" and 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

During hard braking before a crash, the seat belt emergency locking retractor may not lock as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2022. Vehicles previously inspected under recall 19V-350 that did not receive a replacement seat belt assembly will need to have this new recall remedy performed.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Range Rover and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under Recall 19V-392, however the repair may not have been completed properly. Due to a problem with the Keyless Vehicle Latching System (KV Latch), the doors may appear to be closed but may be unlatched.

Unlatched doors may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for any issues with the KV system, disabling the KV mechanisms if necessary, and update the KV Latch software, free of charge. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under Recall 19V-390, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A spring in the Keyless Vehicle Latching System (KV Latch) may get stuck, causing the left hand door to remain unlatched when the door is closed.

An unlatched door may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the software, and inspect the KV latches, replacing them if necessary, free of charge. This recall is expected to begin July 24, 2020. The driver's seat belt Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) may not lock as designed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies."

If the driver brakes prior to a crash, the ELR will not lock at the correct g-force level, increasing the risk of injury.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The passenger frontal air bag inflator initiator may fail to ignite during a crash.

If the air bag inflator initiator fails to ignite, the passenger frontal air bag will not deploy, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2016 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles and 2017 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. The affected vehicles have a front passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.

In the event of a crash of sufficient severity, the front passenger air bag may not deploy as required, increasing the risk of injury.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport vehicles and 2016-2017 Land Rover Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The affected vehicles have seatbelt pretensioners that may not function properly in the event of a crash.

If the front seat seatbelt pretensioners do not function properly, the seat occupants may not be adequately restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Range Rover vehicles manufactured July 26, 2012, to March 9, 2015, and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles manufactured February 18, 2013, to March 5, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the doors may unlatch unexpectedly when closed.

If a vehicle door unlatches, the distraction may increase the risk of a crash and/or a vehicle occupant may fall out of the vehicle if they are not wearing a seatbelt, increasing their risk of injury.
