2017 Jeep Compass

The 2022 Compass is plagued by electrical malfunctions including backup camera going black, automatic headlight warnings, false forward collision warnings, unexpected chiming, and dashboard warning lights activating without cause. The auto start-stop system frequently malfunctions with warning indicators. Some vehicles experience complete electrical system shutdowns.

Reprogram the Body Control Module and sensor modules with updated software. TSB 08-032-22 covers electrical system diagnostic procedures. Replace faulty sensors as identified during diagnostic scan.

Owners report continuous Bluetooth disconnections, remote keyless entry intermittently failing, the alarm system triggering randomly, and the speedometer display resetting to zero while driving. The Uconnect touchscreen becomes unresponsive or displays incorrect information. Door locks may operate erratically.

Update Uconnect software and reprogram the Remote Keyless Entry module. TSB 19-002-23 addresses RKE function failures and key programming issues. Replace the radio module if software updates do not resolve the freezing.

The 9-speed automatic transmission exhibits shudder during acceleration, rough shifting between gears, and delayed engagement. Some owners report complete transmission failure requiring replacement as early as 15,000 miles. The transmission may slip into neutral or fail to shift out of park.

Reflash the TCM with updated calibration. If shudder persists, replace the torque converter. TSB 21-015-22 addresses transmission shift quality. Full transmission replacement is required for internal failures.

A clunking or popping noise from the front end during turning is caused by dry outer tie rod ball joints. The noise worsens over time and can be felt through the steering wheel. Some owners also report loose steering feel and uneven tire wear related to tie rod deterioration.

Remove, grease, and reinstall both outer tie rod ball joints per TSB 19-001-23. If the ball joints show excessive play, full tie rod replacement and wheel alignment are required.

The front park assist system triggers false warnings when no obstacle is present, causing the vehicle to beep and flash alerts while driving normally. The system may also fail to detect actual obstacles, giving drivers a false sense of security. This issue is linked to faulty Park Assist Module software calibration.

Reprogram the Park Assist Module (PAM) with the latest software version per TSB 18-020-22. Clean the ultrasonic sensors. If the issue persists after reprogramming, replace the PAM module.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2017-2018 Jeep Compass vehicles. The brightness of the backlighting for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) cannot be adjusted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

An instrument cluster that is too bright, and cannot be dimmed, can reduce the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update IPC software, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 8, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T70.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles. The affected vehicles have User's Guides that contain incorrect information regarding the jump start procedure, specifically, the polarity of the battery terminals are reversed in the battery terminal graphic.

If a customer follows the User's Guide, they may hook up the battery jumper cables incorrectly, increasing their risk of injury.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles equipped with a 6-speed transmission. The left front halfshaft may not be properly seated, and, as a result, it may disengage from the transmission and/or break.

If the left front halfshaft disengages or breaks, the vehicle will have a loss of drive. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without using the parking brake, the vehicle may roll, despite being in 'Park.' Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the left front halfshaft for engagement and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission, free of charge.
