Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2018 Lincoln Continental maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Lincoln Continental.
For oil changes, the 2018 Lincoln Continental takes 5W-30 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 6 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 3, the recommended coolant is Motorcraft Gold (OAT), and transmission fluid is Mercon LV. Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Lincoln Continental, torque the lug nuts to 162 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.

Door Latch and E-Latch System Failure
The Continental uses an electronic door latch system (E-Latch) with push-button handles instead of conventional mechanical latches. The electronic system can fail due to wiring issues, actuator malfunction, or software errors, leaving occupants unable to open doors from inside or outside. Ford issued a recall for this critical safety defect.
Ford issued recall 19S01 to update the door latch software and add a mechanical backup release cable. The dealer will reprogram the door latch modules and install the backup release on affected doors. Contact your dealer to verify your VIN. The repair is free of charge.
Est. Cost: Covered under recall; $400 - $1,000 per door latch if out of recall scopeSYNC 3 Infotainment Freezing and Black Screen
The SYNC 3 infotainment system freezes intermittently, goes to a black screen, or reboots while driving. The navigation loses GPS position, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto disconnect, and the backup camera may not display. Some owners report the screen developing ghost touch inputs.
Perform a SYNC master reset and update to the latest software version. Ford has released multiple stability patches for the Continental's SYNC system. If the APIM hardware has failed, it needs replacement. Check the GPS antenna connection if navigation is persistently inaccurate.
Est. Cost: $0 for software updates; $600 - $1,500 for APIM replacementAdaptive Suspension Fault and Ride Quality Degradation
Continentals equipped with the adaptive suspension option can develop shock absorber failures, ride height sensor malfunctions, and control module errors. Symptoms include a 'Suspension Fault' warning on the dashboard, the vehicle sitting unevenly, and a noticeably harsher or bouncier ride than normal.
Have the dealer diagnose with a scan tool to identify the specific failed component. Replace the faulty adaptive shock absorber, ride height sensor, or suspension control module as needed. The adaptive shocks are significantly more expensive than standard replacements.
Est. Cost: $600 - $1,500 per adaptive shock; $200 - $400 per sensor; $400 - $800 for control module3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 Coolant Leak from Turbo Lines
The 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 engine develops coolant leaks from the turbocharger coolant supply and return lines. The leak may be slow and difficult to detect, but if coolant levels drop far enough, the turbochargers can overheat and the engine may overheat as well.
Inspect the turbocharger coolant lines and connections for leaks. Replace any cracked or leaking lines with updated parts. Check the turbo coolant pump operation as well. Monitor coolant levels between services and address any loss immediately to prevent turbo and engine damage.
Est. Cost: $300 - $800 for line replacement; $500 - $1,200 if turbo coolant pump replacement neededRear Seat Reclining Mechanism Failure (Recall)
The rear seat backrest reclining mechanism may not properly lock in the upright position. In a crash, an unlocked seat back can increase the risk of injury to rear passengers by allowing them to move forward. This defect prompted a recall on certain 2017-2019 Continental models.
Ford issued a recall to inspect and replace the rear seat backrest reclining mechanism latch and striker. Contact your dealer to verify your VIN. The repair is free of charge. Until the recall is completed, verify that the rear seat back is firmly locked upright before each trip.

Lack of a clear rearview camera image can reduce the driver's visibility of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 21, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S51.
