2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
For oil changes, the 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio takes 0W-40 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 7.5 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 4, the recommended coolant is OAT Coolant (Purple), and transmission fluid is ZF Lifeguard 8 (ATF). Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, torque the lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.

Electrical Faults and Phantom Dashboard Warnings
The Stelvio, built on the same Giorgio platform as the Giulia, suffers from the same electrical gremlins. Random warning lights for the engine, transmission, ABS, and parking sensors illuminate without any actual fault present. The vehicle may enter limp mode or display a 'Service Electronic Throttle Control' message. The issues often occur intermittently and resolve after a restart.
FCA/Stellantis has released cumulative software updates for the body control module, engine control module, and transmission control module. A complete module network re-flash at the dealer using the latest wiTECH calibration files typically resolves most phantom warnings. TSB 08-085-18 REV.B covers updated diagnostic procedures.
Est. Cost: $0 - $300 (software updates) / $500 - $2,000 (module replacement if hardware fails)Uconnect Infotainment Black Screen and Apple CarPlay Disconnects
The Uconnect infotainment system displays a black screen during startup or mid-drive, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connections drop frequently. The navigation system may display an incorrect vehicle position, and voice commands fail to recognize input. The Bluetooth connection to phones becomes unpaired randomly, requiring manual reconnection.
Perform a hard reset of the Uconnect system. If the issue persists, a dealer software reflash using the latest Uconnect firmware is required. If the infotainment module's internal flash storage has degraded, the module must be replaced. USB cable quality can also affect CarPlay stability — use Apple-certified cables.
Est. Cost: $0 (reset/software) / $1,000 - $2,500 (module replacement)Engine Oil Consumption on 2.0L Turbo Four-Cylinder
Some Stelvio models with the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder exhibit oil consumption above normal levels, requiring owners to add oil between service intervals. The consumption is attributed to the turbo shaft seal or piston ring seating under high boost conditions. Owners may notice blue-gray exhaust smoke on startup or during hard acceleration.
FCA dealers can perform an oil consumption test to determine if the rate exceeds the manufacturer's threshold. If excessive, the turbocharger shaft seal should be inspected for leaks. In severe cases, the piston rings may need replacement. Using the manufacturer-specified 0W-40 oil and avoiding extended oil change intervals can help manage consumption.
Est. Cost: $200 - $800 (turbo seal) / $3,000 - $5,000 (piston ring replacement)AWD System Transfer Case Noise and Clunk
The Q4 all-wheel-drive system's transfer case develops a clunking or grinding noise during tight turns or when transitioning between 2WD and AWD modes. The transfer case clutch pack can engage harshly, transmitting a shudder through the driveline. The issue is more prominent in cold weather and during low-speed maneuvering in parking structures.
A transfer case control module software update improves clutch engagement calibration. If the transfer case fluid is contaminated or low, a drain and refill with the correct specification may resolve the noise. In advanced cases, the transfer case clutch pack or the complete unit may need replacement.
Est. Cost: $0 - $200 (software) / $200 - $400 (fluid service) / $2,500 - $5,000 (transfer case replacement)Parking Sensor False Alarms and Camera Failure
The front and rear parking sensors trigger false proximity warnings when no obstacle is present. The rear camera intermittently shows a distorted image or displays a 'Camera Unavailable' message. In some cases, the parking sensors emit a continuous tone that does not stop even after the vehicle is moving. The issues are traced to sensor calibration drift and wiring harness connector corrosion.
Recalibrate the parking sensor system using the dealer diagnostic tool. Replace individual sensors that have failed or that show corrosion on the connector pins. If the rear camera module has failed, it must be replaced and recalibrated. Applying dielectric grease to sensor connectors can prevent future corrosion-related failures.
Est. Cost: $100 - $300 per sensor / $400 - $900 (camera module replacement)8 NHTSA safety recalls for the 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Check your VIN at NHTSA.gov
