2020 Ford Ecosport

The 6F15 six-speed automatic transmission exhibits harsh shifting, delayed engagement when accelerating from a stop, and a noticeable shudder between 20-40 mph. Some owners report the transmission lurching or slamming into gear during cold weather starts. This is the top complaint category for the EcoSport.

Have the dealer reprogram the TCM with the latest shift calibration. Perform a transmission fluid flush with the specified fluid. If the shudder persists after the fluid change, the torque converter clutch may need replacement. Ford issued TSBs addressing the shift quality on 2018-2022 EcoSport models.

The SYNC 3 infotainment system freezes, goes black, or becomes unresponsive while driving. The touchscreen may stop responding to inputs, the backup camera feed disappears, and Bluetooth connectivity drops. Some owners report the system rebooting multiple times per drive.

Perform a SYNC master reset and update to the latest software version via USB or dealer. Ford released stability patches for the EcoSport SYNC system. If the APIM hardware has failed, it needs replacement. Check for water intrusion at the antenna base that can damage the APIM.

The AC compressor can fail prematurely on the 2018-2022 EcoSport, resulting in warm air blowing from the vents. Some owners experience intermittent cooling that works when the engine is revved but fails at idle. The condenser is also vulnerable to rock damage due to its exposed position.

Diagnose the AC system with a pressure test. Replace the AC compressor if it is not engaging or is making grinding noises. Check the condenser for leaks caused by road debris impact. Flush the AC system and replace the receiver-drier when replacing the compressor.

The 2.0L engine develops oil leaks at the valve cover gasket, visible as oil seeping down the side of the engine block. The leak can worsen and drip onto the exhaust manifold, producing a burning oil smell in the cabin. Low oil levels can result if the leak is not addressed.

Replace the valve cover gasket and inspect the PCV valve for proper function, as a stuck PCV valve can cause excessive crankcase pressure that worsens gasket leaks. Clean the engine block mating surface thoroughly before installing the new gasket.

Rear brake pads on the EcoSport wear out disproportionately fast compared to the front brakes, sometimes requiring replacement before 20,000 miles. The electronic parking brake caliper may apply residual pressure on the rear pads when released, causing accelerated wear.

Replace the rear brake pads and inspect the electronic parking brake calipers for proper retraction using a scan tool to retract the pistons. Inspect the caliper slide pins for corrosion. If the parking brake caliper motor is not fully releasing, it may need replacement.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect, 2019-2020 MKZ, MKX, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, Fusion, 2019-2023 Ranger, Mustang, 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator, 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD, Corsair, 2020-2023 Aviator, Transit, 2020-2024 Explorer, 2021-2024 Bronco Sport, and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.

A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle. A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Ford Focus and 2018-2022 Ford EcoSport vehicles. The oil pump drive belt or drive belt tensioner may fail, resulting in a loss of engine oil pressure.

A loss of oil pressure can result in an engine stall and a loss of power braking assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the oil pump tensioner assembly and oil pump drive belt, free of charge. If engine failure occurs due to a damaged oil pump belt and/or oil pump belt tensioner, Ford has authorized dealers to replace the engine assembly as an interim repair before the availability of remedy parts for the final repair. This repair will be free of charge (parts and labor). Owner notification letters were mailed August 11, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020 EcoSport and 2019-2020 Transit Connect vehicles. Depending on the model, either the driver side or passenger side frontal air bag modules are missing the first-stage booster propellant and sleeve. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Air bag modules missing the first-stage booster propellant will not deploy as intended in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected air bag module on either the driver or passenger side, free of charge. This recall began February 18, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20C26.
