Common problems reported by 2021 Genesis G80 owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.

1

Fuel Pump Module Defect (Recall)

The fuel pump module may fail due to a manufacturing defect in the fuel pump impeller, causing the engine to stall without warning during driving or fail to start. This is a safety-critical issue as it can occur at any speed. NHTSA recall 22V-178 covers the affected G80 models.

Solution

Genesis dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump module assembly free of charge. Owners should check their VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup page or contact Genesis customer care to determine if their vehicle is affected.

Est. Cost: $0 (recall)
2

Air Suspension Self-Leveling Failure (E-LSD Equipped)

G80 models equipped with the available electronically controlled suspension experience a failure of the self-leveling function. The vehicle may sit lower on one corner or display a 'Suspension Service Required' warning. The issue is traced to leaking air springs or a failing air compressor.

Solution

Diagnose which component has failed using the Genesis diagnostic system. Replace the affected air spring, compressor, or ride height sensor. All four corners should be recalibrated after any suspension component replacement.

Est. Cost: $800 - $2,000 per air spring / $1,200 - $2,500 (compressor)
3

Heads-Up Display Flickering and Dimming

The heads-up display (HUD) flickers intermittently, dims excessively in bright sunlight, or fails to project a visible image. Some owners report the HUD image appears washed out or develops a green tint. Temperature extremes seem to worsen the flickering behavior.

Solution

Recalibrate the HUD through the infotainment settings. If recalibration does not resolve the issue, the HUD projector unit under the dashboard requires replacement. Ensure the windshield film layer is intact, as damaged windshield film can affect HUD clarity.

Est. Cost: $0 (recalibration) / $1,000 - $2,500 (HUD unit replacement)
4

Automatic Trunk Lid Slow Operation

The power trunk lid operates very slowly compared to when the vehicle was new, taking 8-10 seconds to fully open or close. In some cases, the trunk stops mid-travel and reverses direction as if detecting an obstruction when there is none. The issue worsens in cold weather.

Solution

Lubricate the trunk lid hinges and strut cylinders. Recalibrate the power trunk through the Genesis diagnostic tool. If the electric strut actuators have weakened, they require replacement. The trunk latch sensor should also be inspected for false obstruction detection.

Est. Cost: $50 - $150 (lubrication/recalibration) / $400 - $900 (actuator replacement)
5

Lane Keep Assist Aggressive Steering Intervention

The lane keeping assist system applies overly aggressive steering corrections, especially on curved roads and near construction zones with temporary lane markings. Owners describe the steering wheel pulling sharply, which feels unsafe. The system also tends to fight the driver's inputs when changing lanes without a turn signal.

Solution

A software update for the forward camera and ADAS control module adjusts the steering intervention sensitivity. Lane keep assist sensitivity can be adjusted in the vehicle settings. Genesis released an ADAS software update for improved lane detection on the G80 platform.

Est. Cost: $0 (software update under warranty)
