Common problems reported by 2021 Genesis Gv80 owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.

1

3.5T Engine Oil Leak from Turbo Oil Feed Lines

The 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine develops oil leaks from the turbocharger oil feed and return lines. Owners notice oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold, causing a burning oil smell and visible smoke from under the hood. The leak can worsen quickly if not addressed.

Solution

Replace the turbocharger oil feed line gaskets and seals. Genesis dealers have an updated gasket kit to address the issue. Both turbocharger lines should be inspected and replaced simultaneously to prevent recurrence on the opposite side.

Est. Cost: $300 - $800 (gasket replacement) / $1,500 - $3,000 if turbo damage occurred
2

Infotainment Split-Screen Navigation Crash

The large split-screen infotainment system crashes when running navigation and audio streaming simultaneously. The system may display a black screen or revert to the home screen, requiring a manual restart. Some owners report the system takes up to 30 seconds to recover.

Solution

Genesis has released multiple software updates to improve multitasking stability. Dealers can apply the latest navigation and infotainment firmware. If the issue persists after software updates, the infotainment head unit hardware may need replacement.

Est. Cost: $0 (software updates under warranty)
3

Transmission Rough Downshift (8-Speed AT)

The 8-speed automatic transmission exhibits harsh downshifts, particularly from 3rd to 2nd gear during deceleration and from 2nd to 1st when coming to a stop. The jolt is noticeable enough to be felt by passengers. Some owners also report delayed upshifts in Sport mode.

Solution

A TCM software update improves the shift mapping and torque converter management. Genesis TSB addressing shift quality on the 8-speed Smartstream transmission may apply. A transmission fluid exchange can also improve shift feel.

Est. Cost: $0 - $150 (software update) / $300 - $500 (fluid exchange)
4

Front Seat Memory Position Drift

The driver's seat memory positions gradually drift from the saved settings, moving the seat slightly forward, back, or changing the recline angle each time the position is recalled. Owners report needing to re-save memory positions every few weeks.

Solution

Recalibration of the seat position sensors and motors through the dealer diagnostic tool. If the seat track position sensor has failed, it requires replacement. A seat control module software update has been released to improve position accuracy.

Est. Cost: $0 (warranty recalibration) / $300 - $800 (sensor or motor replacement)
5

Fuel Pump Module Failure

An improperly manufactured fuel pump module may cause the engine to stall or fail to start. The issue stems from a contamination during the fuel pump impeller manufacturing process, which can cause the impeller to deform. Genesis issued NHTSA recall 22V-178 for affected vehicles.

Solution

Genesis dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pump module free of charge under recall 22V-178. Owners should check NHTSA.gov or contact their Genesis dealer to verify if their VIN is affected.

Est. Cost: $0 (recall)
