A violent steering wheel oscillation occurs at highway speeds (usually 45-65 mph), typically triggered by hitting a bump or pothole. The entire front end shakes uncontrollably, making the vehicle difficult to control. This is a well-known long-standing Wrangler issue.

Replace the steering stabilizer (damper) as a first step. Check the track bar, ball joints, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings for wear. Upgraded aftermarket steering stabilizers provide better damping. The track bar bracket bolt should be checked for proper torque.

The Engine Stop-Start (ESS) system relies on an auxiliary battery that frequently fails, causing error messages and the ESS system to stop functioning. Improperly seated fuses and charging system faults are also common, leading to intermittent electrical failures.

Replace the auxiliary ESS battery (located under the passenger seat). Check all fuse connections in the fuse box for proper seating. If the main battery is also weak, replace both batteries. Some owners install a higher-capacity main battery to compensate.

Water enters the cabin during rain or car washes, especially around the doors, freedom panel seals, and windshield. Pooling water on the floor can damage electronic modules and cause a musty odor. The removable top panels create more potential leak points.

Inspect and replace worn door seals and freedom panel weather stripping. Ensure the drain plugs in the floor are clear and functioning. Apply silicone sealant to known leak points around the windshield frame. The hard top rear seal is a frequent culprit.

Manual transmission models can experience clutch pressure plate overheating, which may lead to fracture or in extreme cases an engine fire. Symptoms include a burning smell, difficulty shifting, and clutch slippage during hard use or towing.

Jeep issued recall W14/NHTSA 21V-510 for certain Wranglers with manual transmissions. Contact your dealer to check if your VIN is affected. Avoid sustained clutch slipping on hills and reduce towing loads if you have a manual transmission.

A metal-on-metal reaction between dissimilar metals causes galvanic corrosion at the door hinges, hood hinges, and tailgate. The corrosion appears as white or brown buildup and can cause the hinges to seize, making doors difficult to open or close.

Jeep redesigned the door hinges to address this. Apply dielectric grease to the hinge pins to slow corrosion. If hinges are seized, they can be replaced with the updated part number. The corrosion is cosmetic initially but worsens over time.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4Xe and 2022-2026 Grand Cherokee 4Xe vehicles. The high voltage battery may fail internally and lead to a vehicle fire while parked or driving.

A vehicle fire can increase the risk of injury.

Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and not to charge their vehicles until the remedy is completed. Dealers will update the high voltage battery software, and replace the high voltage battery, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 17, 2025. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The wiring harness for the rearview camera and the center brake light may short circuit, which can disable the rearview camera image and center brake light. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 111, "Rear Visibility" and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, a center brake light that fails to illuminate can fail to indicate to other drivers that the vehicle is slowing down, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers replaced the harness for the center brake light and rearview camera and/or the spare tire carrier/harness assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. The instrument panel cluster may experience an internal short circuit and fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Controls and Displays."

An instrument panel that fails to display critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, can increase the risk of a crash.

A hybrid control processor (HCP) software error may cause the defrosting and defogging system to be inoperative. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems."

An inoperative windshield defrosting and defogging system may decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners are advised not to recharge their vehicles, and to park outside and away from structures, until they are repaired. A seat belt with pretensioner failure may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
