Common problems reported by 2021 Lincoln Corsair owners, with recommended fixes and estimated repair costs.

1

Engine Compartment Fire Risk (2.5L HEV/PHEV, Recall)

Certain 2022 Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L hybrid or plug-in hybrid engines have a risk of engine compartment fires caused by oil and fuel vapor leaks near hot engine components. Fires can occur even when the vehicle is parked and turned off.

Solution

Ford issued recall 22V-484 (NHTSA Campaign) in July 2022. The dealer will inspect for leaks and install updated underbody shielding and ventilation to mitigate the fire risk. Contact your dealer immediately. Do not park in enclosed garages until the recall is completed.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
2

Transmission Jerky Shifting and Delayed Response

The 8-speed automatic transmission exhibits jerky or rough shifting during acceleration and deceleration, delayed gear responses with noticeable hesitation, and occasional gear slippage. Low transmission fluid levels from leaks can worsen the symptoms.

Solution

Have the dealer check the transmission fluid level and inspect for leaks. A TCM software recalibration can improve shift quality. If internal wear is present, the valve body or torque converter may need replacement. Use only the specified transmission fluid.

Est. Cost: $0 - $200 for software update; $300 - $600 for leak repair; $1,500 - $3,000 for valve body/converter
3

High-Voltage Battery Failure (PHEV, Recall)

A manufacturing defect in one or more high-voltage battery cells may result in an internal short circuit and battery failure. This can cause a complete loss of hybrid drive power while driving, increasing crash risk, and in worst cases may lead to thermal runaway.

Solution

Ford issued a recall to perform a Battery Energy Control Module diagnostic test and replace the high-voltage battery pack as necessary. Contact your dealer immediately. The repair is free of charge.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
4

Power Steering Assist Loss on Startup

Some 2020-2022 Corsair vehicles lose electric power steering assist during engine startup, making the steering wheel extremely stiff and difficult to turn. This is the same issue affecting the Escape platform and can be dangerous when pulling into traffic.

Solution

Ford issued a TSB to reprogram or replace the steering assist control module. Restarting the engine may temporarily restore assist. Contact your dealer for the permanent software repair.

Est. Cost: $0 - $200 for reprogramming; $400 - $800 for module replacement
5

Rearview Camera Water Intrusion and Failure

Water may enter the rearview camera connectors, causing the camera image to not appear on the display or to show a distorted image. The problem is particularly common in rainy climates and after car washes, and may worsen over time as corrosion builds in the connectors.

Solution

Ford issued a recall to replace the rearview camera assembly and install updated waterproof connectors. Contact your dealer to verify your VIN. The repair is free of charge.

Est. Cost: Covered under recall
