2018 Jeep Renegade
Vehicle Specs & Maintenance Data
The 2018 Jeep Renegade maintenance specs on this page cover the key fluids, torque values, and wear items you need for routine service. Use these numbers as a quick reference when performing oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, and other scheduled maintenance on your Jeep Renegade.
For oil changes, the 2018 Jeep Renegade takes 0W-20 Full Synthetic motor oil with a capacity of 5.5 quarts. Brake fluid type is DOT 3, the recommended coolant is Mopar OAT (Purple/Violet), and transmission fluid is ATF+4. Always use the manufacturer-recommended fluids to maintain warranty coverage and engine longevity.
When mounting wheels on the Jeep Renegade, torque the lug nuts to 89 ft-lbs using a calibrated torque wrench. Over- or under-torquing can lead to warped brake rotors or loose wheels. Re-torque after 50 to 100 miles on newly installed wheels.
Owners of the 2018 Jeep Renegade have reported 5 common issues including "9-Speed Automatic Transmission Issues", "Excessive Engine Oil Consumption" and "Electrical System Malfunctions". Scroll down to the Diagnostics tab for detailed descriptions, solutions, and estimated repair costs.
There are 2 NHTSA safety recalls on file for the 2018 Jeep Renegade. Check the Recalls tab below for full details.

9-Speed Automatic Transmission Issues
The ZF 9HP48 9-speed automatic transmission in the Renegade exhibits rough and delayed gear changes, hesitation during acceleration, and unexpected power loss during passing maneuvers. Owners report the transmission hunting between gears at steady speeds and harsh downshifts when braking. Some vehicles experience complete transmission failure.
Reflash the TCM with updated shift calibration software. TSB 21-014-22 addresses shift quality and adaptive learning resets. If harsh shifting persists, the valve body or torque converter may need replacement. Full transmission replacement for internal failures.
Est. Cost: $0 - $5,000Excessive Engine Oil Consumption
The 2.4L Tigershark engine consumes oil at an alarming rate, with some owners reporting consumption of one quart every 1,000 miles by 20,000 miles. The engine may not trigger a low oil warning until the level is critically low, risking engine damage. Dealerships have been known to dismiss the issue as 'normal consumption.'
Perform an oil consumption test at the dealership (typically monitored over 2,000 miles). If consumption exceeds one quart per 2,000 miles, the piston rings and/or valve stem seals should be replaced. TSB 09-002-22 provides diagnostic procedures for excessive oil consumption.
Est. Cost: $1,500 - $3,500Electrical System Malfunctions
The Renegade experiences a range of electrical problems including engine stalling, error and warning messages activating without cause, the auto start-stop system malfunctioning, and the engine shutting down unexpectedly. Some owners report the vehicle losing all electrical power and refusing to restart.
Diagnose with a full system scan for DTCs. Replace the Intelligent Battery Sensor if faulty. Update the Body Control Module and PCM software. TSB 08-030-22 covers electrical power management diagnostics. Check for corroded ground connections.
Est. Cost: $100 - $800Forward Collision Avoidance System Failures
The forward collision avoidance system triggers false braking events, applying the brakes when no obstacle is present and startling the driver. Conversely, the system may also fail to detect actual hazards and not intervene when needed. Warning messages about system unavailability appear frequently on the dash.
Clean the forward-facing radar sensor and camera behind the windshield. Recalibrate the system after windshield replacement. TSB 18-021-22 addresses false ADAS triggering. Software update to the ADAS module resolves most intermittent failures.
Est. Cost: $0 - $500Engine Stalling and No-Restart Conditions
The engine stalls without warning while idling at stop lights or while driving at low speeds, causing loss of power steering and power brakes. The vehicle may not restart immediately, requiring multiple attempts or a waiting period. The issue has been linked to fuel pump relay failures and PCM software bugs.
Update the PCM software and replace the fuel pump relay. TSB 14-003-22 addresses intermittent stalling. If the fuel pump itself has failed, full replacement is needed. Inspect the throttle body for carbon buildup and clean if necessary.
